Roof Installation, of Cut Roofs and Truss Roofs

Here at Elite Builders Cardiff we can either make or supply any roof possible for any house or Building. There are two main types of roofs.

Truss Roof being framed

Truss Roof / Prefrabicated roof - Truss roofs are made off-site and brought to site on a lorry and usually placed into place from a crane and then fixed in place with a carpenter on site.

Cut Roofs - Cut roofs are made on-site from a carpenter or Joiner. They have excellent benefits due to they can later be made into a large loft as not so many struts.

Truss Roofs

These are made in a workshop and brought to the site by a technician measuring up sizes to fit the wall plates of the dimensions. On average they can usually take a week to 2 to be made and delivered. Once these are installed, you would often have to take them out if chosen to have a loft conversion further down the line unless you had special truss's made to suit a loft conversion. The benefits of Truss's are that once they are delivered, they usually don't take that long to be installed. Truss roofs are the more modernised roofs that are used throughout the entire UK as time compared to do a cut roof is extremely quick.

Cut Roofs In Cardiff

Cut Roof Carpenter CardiffWe can make made to measure cut roofs to all specifications and dimensions. Cut roofs are usually sizes of timber allocated by an architect or structural engineer. We then make the roof to there requirements using whichever graded timber specified by them. Cut Roofs usually take a little longer to make than install a truss roof as a cut roof is made on-site. This gives more significant benefits as no waiting time to be made as in a truss roof and can be installed as soon as engineer designs and calculations become available. Cut roofs can usually be made into a loft conversion later on due to the space in the middle of the loft becoming available as the timbers are larger.

What is a Roof's Function And Purpose

  • The main function as everyone knows is to keep the house or building watertight so no rain or water can get into the building.
  • Traditional roofs are built on a pitch between 35 degrees and 45 degrees this provides a range of purposes
  • Right pitch to allow water to run down and be collected by the gutter.
  • Any steeper and the water will run down too fast and won't allow sufficient collection from the gutter
  • Any Shallower greater chance water will hold and run backwards, through the tiles or slates causing leaks.
